What To Do BEFORE Calling an Emergency Electrician

Finding yourself in an electrical emergency can be scary, especially if you are unsure on what to do. It’s likely that it will be your first instinct to call up an emergency electrician straight away, but there are a few other things that should be done first to keep you and your property safe.

An electrical emergency could be something like a power outage/shortage or if you’re noticing signs such as smoking which can lead to a huge emergency. The most important thing that you should do right away when you find yourself in an electrical emergency is to figure out the source of said emergency.

Once you’ve figured out what the source is, if it’s safe to do so, you should turn off the power that is connecting to the source. For example, if an appliance is smoking, turn off the powerpoint connecting to the appliance if possible, or if a light has gone out or is sparking, turn off the light switch. If you aren’t able to get to the direct source or don’t feel safe to do so, you can also turn off your home’s entire power at the switchboard.

After you’ve done both of these things, it’s time to give an emergency electrician a call. You can contact the Hello Electrical team at 1300 303 077. It’s important that you treat electrical emergencies as seriously as they are and get them sorted as soon as you notice them or even if you notice any signs of a coming emergency.
